Autotype... can I trigger it within a style?

R

Richard Cray

How would one go about triggering autotype within a particular style? For
instance, if one has a style for character names, and this style is for a
screenplay, it would be great if upon typing the letter 'J' the name JACK
appears, etc.

So far, I activated autotype but could not get it to work within a particular
style.

Many thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Hi Richard,

AutoCorrect entries are universal in a document, regardless of what style
you're using. In other words, if you go to Tools> AutoCorrect and create an
entry that replaces J with Jack, then the J will trigger Jack in every style
of any document you're working on, providing you check the box that says
"Replace text as you type".

If that's what you've done and the replace mechanism isn't working, please
post back with more details, including your OS and Office/Word version
numbers.

Richard:

If you're still around: AutoText is style-sensitive, AutoCorrect is not.

Personally, I wish that neither were style-sensitive, but there you go :)

Cheers
