Avast4\ashOutXt.dll could not be installed or loaded

When I open Outlook 2003 I receive the following error message:

"The add-in "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashOutXt.dll could not
be installed or loaded"

I think it started appearing after I installed OneNote Power tool: Send
Outlook to OneNote. But when I uninstall the tool, I still have the problem.

I run Avast4 here, with a bunch of PowerToys running back and forth, so I
would suggest you temporarily uninstall Avast, then reinstall it. Something
may have been broken in the AV program (the file which is being pointed
out). Uninstall, restart, then reinstall Avast and see if that doesn't
help.

Hmmm. It should be listed as "avast! Antivirus" - exactly that upper- and
lower-case.

Nothing like that in Add Remove Programs, but there is an Avast Folder in
Program files. 3 folders inside: DATA, English, & Setup. No uninstall or
install files...

I really don't know. I'd suggest you check the Avast web site or support
section. Sounds like there's an incomplete install there. Perhaps you can
use a Restore Point from System Restore?

Okay. Last question. I know nothing about Avast software or why it's on my
system. What is it that I'm even looking/searching for on their website? Just
the basic program? This particular error message? Don't really even know
where to start...

That's why I suggested you look around their web site. I certainly don't
know anything about supporting their program. I would see which
version you're running, perhaps right-clicking the icon in your Systray and
selecting About avast!... . Then go here: http://www.avast.com/ and look
under the drop-down Support menu where they have Technical Support and even
a Support Forum. In the latter, you would be able to post questions and
probably receive answers from their support staff.

Thanks for trying, Chris. The problem is, I don't appear to be running the
program. It's not in my system tray. And I have no idea where these files
came from. I'll give their website a shot. Wish me luck...:)

Good luck! It should be listed under All Programs, if it is installed.
Perhaps at one time it was there, and someone uninstalled it - partially.
It might be you have a Registry entry left over. However, the Avast forum
should be able to help you track it down. You might also open Windows
Explorer and do a search for that errant file name. If it shows up
somewhere, then you can see what directory it is in. If it doesn't (make
sure you enable viewing file extensions and hidden files in Control
Panel/Folder Options before the search), then it is probably a stray
Registry entry.

Thanks so much. Turns out that all I had to do was go into their FAQ and one
of the choices led me to the uninstall progam for Avast4 and it took out what
ever was in my registry etc.

Really appreciate your quick responses and sincere effort to help solve both
these problems.

All the best,

Oakes
