.avi file plays in WM Player. Audio only in PP 2003

I used both a Mainconcept and MS DV codec to compress some short (2-minute)
video clips to .avi format. They play great in Windows Media Player (version
9), but in PP 2003, only the audio plays. The video is black. ---movie
image on slide shows proper image, but goes to black during playback. Any
ideas?

Ultimately, I need to create some video files to send to someone in a format
that I'm fairly confident will play on his laptop. -Thanks, David

to find out why my .avi clip plays just fine in WM Player, but in PP 2003 the

I would imagine it's a codec issue.
