AVI file will not play in PPT. It did before

AVI files that once palyed in ppt no longer do. They play in Windows Media
Player. They are properly linked. The error message indicates I am missing a
driver. This behaivior started after cleaning files from the desktop.

Once before a friend worked around this issue by inserting the file as an
object and not through the insert movie command. Does this make sense?

Thank you Austin,
The tutorial is very imformative. I found the MCI player by searching as you
suggested. It played the offending avi file without a problem. But ppt still
won't play nice. I thought ppt used the MCI app to run its videos. I hoped
the MCI palyer would not play the file so your logic would hold. So I am
still baffled. Any help?

Mark,

As this is XP, try downloading Windows Media Player 10 and installing it.
This *usually* corrects codec associations.

Austin,

I have Windows Media Player 10. Do I need to reinstall? Point of
clarification. The tutorial made a distinction between Windows media player
and the earlier MCI version. It is the MCI version that PPT uses to play
media? yes?
