Avoid automatic insertion of local area code in a "contact...

How can I reset Outlook 2002 so that the area code is not automatically
inserted when a "contact" with the local area code is created or edited.

I think this is related to the Modem setup, which shows the local area code,
but I can't delete or remove the local area code from this setting.

Is there a registery modification that will solve my problem?
