avoid inheritence of changes from masterproject to subprojects in general

hi,

first of all,, thx a lot for all ur help. :)

atm i am facing one last question.
when i insert subprojects in my masterproject i can set individual
that the subproject is write-protected from any changes in th
masterproject. However, as i insert several subjects at the same time
or change subprojects in the masterproject, it could happen, that it ge
forgotten to set these on write-protect.

Therefore, is there a universal way to protect all subprojects fro
getting changed out of the masterproject, but still update th
materproject after changes in the subprojects.

thx a lot, rgds man

I believe what you said is: I inserted a project file into a master project
and selected the "Link to Project" check box when I inserted the project.
This causes the master project to be updated when the subprojects are
updated. It will also update the subproject if the master project is
updated. Your question is "How do I stop this behavior? If people change the
subproject in the master project, I do not want those changes to be saved
into the subproject. I want the update to be only from the subproject up to
the master project"

Look in the Indicators column for a small project icon. This says the
master/subprojects are linked. To be safe, I collapse the inserted project
to a single line (summary task).

Double click the single summary line. This will open the "Inserted Project
Information" dialog box.

Go to the Advanced tab and check the box that says "Read only". Then click
OK.

Now, if someone changes the subproject information from the master project
they will have to save the subproject with a different file name or discard
the changes when saving the master project file.

Another way to do this is make the entire master project a read only file.
File/Save As.... select the read only option or use a password. When the
Save As... dialog box is open, look for the "Tools" icon and then select
General Options, there is an option for Read Only there (for the entire
master project) as well.
