Avoiding the autocorrect button?

Dear MS Word expert users,

Is there a way to prevent the autocorrect smart button from popping up
every time MS Word does an autocorrect? I've looked through a couple
of books and trough the on-line help. The on-line help explains how
to disable the paste-options smart button but not the autocorrect one.
(I'm using MS Word 2004 for Mac OS X, version 11.3.8).
