It is easy to do, this may have been set for you automatically when you set up your Exchange account in Apple Mail. This must be set to On in order for your email to work.
However, you can check: In Apple Mail, Click on the Mail menu, and then Preferences, In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): option, click on Server Settings...
Check that the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is ticked - if not, then click on it to select it.
Change Authentication to NTLM.
Enter your username and password.
Enter the domain as SOTON.
Click on the OK button.

Once you may receive the following message that the certificate cannot be verified, you just click Continue on this message you will be able to send the message, however you will be asked the first time you send a message for each Mail session.
