I backed my Office 2000 documents and spreadsheets on a CD. I use
WinXP and on this PC, am using Office 2002. Could the 2002 be the
problem? I have none of my back up at all. 8•(
Thanks

1) There is no such thing as "Office 2002" - '2002' is the version given
to the individual components within the Office XP suite, or if they're
purchased standalone. Do you mean Office 2003? If it's a new system, it will
be the latter as no PC manufacturer installs Office XP these days.
2) Sounds to me as though the documents are corrupt. Do you have Norton
installed? If so, disable the Office plugin completely and try again. If
that doesn't work (and chances are it probably won't), try installing the
application you used to create the CD on your new system and see if you have
better luck then. Office XP/2003 have no problem opening 2000 files.
3) If all else fails, you can send me a file and I'll see if I can open
it (I run 2003, but it won't make any odds). Send to magrat (_) garlick (@)
hotmail (dot) com. Please zip it first.
