Backend Corruption

I have a client who is running the backend of an access 2k application on a
novell server. In 5 days since it was installed the backend has become
corrupt twice. I believe that the server is momentarily going down and the
front end looses the connection to the backend. Has anyone else experienced
this and if so how have you handled it. If I set a timed backup to occur and
someone is editing the file will that create a problem. How do you handle
backing up the system.
