How can I put a background color behind text and graphics, and be able
to print the document with the color ?

Have a look in Word> Preferences - Print to be sure you have a check in the
box for Background Colors & Images.

Keep in mind that Backgrounds are primarily intended for on-screen viewing &
may not provide the printed results you expect - not to mention the
horrendous saturation of the paper with an exorbitant amount of ink. You'll
probably have to use very high quality paper in order to avoid content
running together.

Additionally, your printer may not be able to print to the actual edges of
the paper, so you'll have an unprinted "border" on 1 or more sides.

Well, that's why you're requested to supply your version information when
you submit a question :) Apparently you're using one of the 11 versions
that preceded Office 2008... Or perhaps you aren't using a Mac at all - You
could be using one of the similar number of releases for Windows.

If that setting isn't available to you it means that you're using a version
that doesn't support printing of Backgrounds. The workaround is to obtain
the graphic you want to use as a background & insert it as a Watermark or as
an image in the Header.
