Background Image on Word docs?

Is there a "best" way to put a sort of "watermark" background image on Word
that is also "fit" for printing?
I'm thinking like putting a black & white "faded" picture set as sort of
"backdrop" on each page but the words should still be clear enough to
read...as if they're "floating" above the image...

ok, aside of course from printing the "background" image first on a page
and then having words put in later...you see I want the reader to have the
same "effect" seen whether in softcopy or printed....

How would you guys do it?

ok,
first open a word document
the click on the Format menu, point to Background, and then click Printed
Watermark.
To insert a picture as a watermark, click Picture Watermark, and then click
Select Picture. Select the picture you want, and then click Insert.

OR
to use a clipart picture or any other picture already inserted. double click
on the picture to display the format picture dialog window.
then select the picture tab.
under image control; colour select washout, then click OK.
THEN select layout, and select the behind text option this will allow you to
write over it.

you could apply the watermark to all pages by creating a template; for
instructions on how to do this type in template in the word help function
accessed by pressing the F1 key.
