Background Music Issue

Morning! I have used FP2003 to insert background music on all of my primary
pages. It plays on some, but not on others. In the reports function of FP,
it says that the error is caused in the non-fuctioning pages by the a
misdirected hyperlink. For example on the Who's Who page, the correct
background script in the Design View/Page Properties is music/DannyBoy.mp3.
And that's how it appears in the Code View - however, in the Reports it says
that the broken hyperlink is in WhosWho/music/DannyBoy.mp3. It should not
even be going to the Who's Who folder and in the Code View, it doesn't show
that it is. But it is the consistent error (shy of the incorrect folder
name) on the pages that aren't working correctly. Any suggestions on how to
get it to play on each page? Thanks in advance.

People at work dont want some trashy music blaring out of ther

Really? I found seven but only three in your response. You should be
more tolerant, especially as the point made was relevant and to the
point.

that I in no way asked for. It is irrelevant to me what one's opinion is
regarding my use of music, nor do I feel inclined to justify it. What is

Thanks Rob and Joe for your helpful responses. The site is:

chhspantherchoir.org

The only tabs that are working with the music are the Home, News, and Alumni
page; although the script has been inserted into all the pages. Please keep
in mind that I am a complete novice at this, so I am sure that there are
plenty of things that I have done incorrectly. Thanks for your time!

Hi Stacy,

OK I see what has happened.. on the pages (at least the couple that I
looked at) where the background music is not playing is because of the path
listed to the DannyBoy.mp3

On the 3 pages that are working (Home, News, and Alumni) those pages are
located in the top level or root of your web. For some of the other pages
you have created different folders or directories and then put those pages
in those.

So as an example the news page is here:

http://www.chhspantherchoir.org/news.html (top level of your site)

but the Trip page is located here:

http://www.chhspantherchoir.org/Trip/trip.html (not at the top level but
rather it is located down one level inside a folder called "Trip")

The code you have generated for the background sound looks like this on both
pages:

<bgsound src="music/DannyBoy.mp3" loop="-1">

One way that will fix the problem without your changing the code is to move
the pages out of those individual folders..and put them at the top level
similar to the Home, News, and Alumni pages.

If you are just building the site then that should be a relatively easy way
to fix it..however if it is already somewhat established and showing up on
search engines..you might want to change the code itself on the pages that
don't work. If you go into code/HTML view on those pages..and changed this:

<bgsound src="music/DannyBoy.mp3" loop="-1">

to this:

<bgsound src="../music/DannyBoy.mp3" loop="-1">

I believe that would fix it as well.

As always when doing something like this it is good to make sure you first
have a good backup!

Hi Stacy,

Me again..

One other way you could fix the problem is to create a folder called "music"
in each of the folders where the current pages are that don't work. Then
inside all of those music folders you also had the file of DannyBoy.mp3 that
should also work.

(Only problem with that.. is that is having a lot of mp3 files which might
take up too much space.)

Since Joe got ya fixed up on that one, lemme add a suggestion; on your photo
pages (the ones with the pool party pix) each one of those tiny pix are OVER
1 meg in file size...Waaaayyyyyy too big!

You need to optimize them. If you don't have an image editor to optimize pix
for the web, download IrFanview (freebie) - a tool that you should have in
your toolbox anyway.

The errors I found:

Starting a sentence with a conjunction, no period (full stop) at the
end of the first sentence and two, one sentence paragraphs.

genuinely wanted to know.

Yes, I missed the full-stop.

I DID notice (after I had posted) that I had started a sentence with a
conjunction. This IS grammatically incorrect, though probably OK
colloquially. When criticising grammar, I should have taken more care.

Is it incorrect to have only one-sentence paragraphs? I often do this in
emails for clarity in separating points (as in this post).

In general a paragraph should consist of sentences that are connected
in content and meaning and develop one or more thoughts. One sentence
paragraphs generally do not do this. In your case, the two sentences
were about the same idea and hence should have been a single
paragraph. Of cause literary license allows one to break as many
"rules" as one likes. Otherwise we would never read many of the
greatest authors.
