Background picture transparency

I'm making a slide presentation for class, I have the background picture at a
transparency of 57%, however whenever I save the powerpoint the background
goes back to normal and I can't read any of the text on the slide because
there is no transparency...it's just a bold picture that I had already
changed. How do I keep the transparency selection set at where I had it?

Put a box over your background image and adjust the fill transparency to your liking and you should be okay.

Not sure if my last message got through, do I put a text box over the whole
slide? Do I have to do that for all of the slides as well? I just figured
if you save the presentation it should save just as you left it, it's kind of
ridiculous that it doesn't.

Which version of PowerPoint? If you open Slide master, and apply your image and transparent box and apply it to all slides you will only have to apply it once.

I'm using 2007 but I'm pretty new to creating powerpoint presentations, so
honestly I don't really know what you are talking about. I just know what I
did and that is how all the guides and stuff I've found online say to use
transparency....after you set your transparency click on apply to all. But
like i've said before that doesn't help me if the transparency gets reset
every time I open the file.

Did you put the background picture one slide or did you got to "View /Slide
Master" and put the picture in the master? The latter is what Michael
guesses. When you open the slide master again, draw a rectangle over the
picture and apply transparency to this rectangle, you should get a fine
result. If there are different picture is inserted on every single slide you
have to draw the rectangle on every single slide.

But I wonder why your transparency doesn't stick to the picture. How is the
picture inserted in the presentation? You have chosen "Insert / Picture" and
just click on the button "Insert"? You didn't use "Link to file" instead of
"Insert"?

Another thought: how do you save the presentation? As PPT-2007-file with the
extension pptx or as PPT-97-2003-file with the extension ppt?

The transparency should remain at what you set. In PowerPoint2007

Click on the Design Tab, Background Styles, Format Background, select Picture or texture fill, insert from: File...insert your picture, adjust your Transparency then Apply to all, Close, then save or continue building your presentation

Pia Bork: I saved it under 93-2003 or whatever. Not all of the university
has changed the office program to 2007 so we save all of our items under
93-2003 setting so no matter where we are on campus it's compatible. So
would that be the reason that the picture transparency is not staying? I
have the picture saved on my pc, than I do the find file/insert option to add
the pic as a background.

Michael Koerner: That's what I did and it's not staying. However as stated
above I am saving it as a 93-2003 file extension or whatever for the above
reasons.

Any suggestions? I tried using the slide master thing and it was REALLY
confusing...

Thanks,

Andrew

Does your version of PowerPoint have SP1 installed? that may be the problem. I have no problem creating files with transparent backgrounds and saving them as 97-2003 files, and then opening them again in PowerPoint and having the background stay the same as when I closed it originally.

I really don't know where to go now. If you want to send me a blank slide from the template your using along with the image you want as the background, along with the transparency level your looking for, I would not mind having a look at it to see what happens at my end. If you do send, use the same subject matter, and send it to (e-mail address removed)
