background saves

I have 2 users who are having problems saving their Word
documents. While it is trying to save (up to 60 seconds)
there is a message on the task bar that says saving to
background???
I know there is a setting that will eliminate background
saves, but I'd just as soon not turn that off. Is there
something that would "bog" down the process?

Fix? setting? Any ideas?
