background/watermark problems

I am trying to add a "DRAFT" watermark to my Word document, but the field is
greyed out under the format menu. When I click it, I get a message saying
this feature is incompatable with Word 6.0/95. I have Word 2003, and am not
sure why I get this message. I have checked the background colors and images
box on the print menu of the options screen, but still have problems.

You are getting this warning because you have set the option to save
documents to be compatible with earlier versions of Word. Look under Tools,
Options, Save tab and clear the option near the bottom of the dialog.

I encountered a user with a similar error, only his said "word97 not
compatible" the mentioned fix worked.
