backgrounds

I am trying to create a bacground containing a title block which I can add
and will show up in the same place everytime on floor plan drawings
regardless of the scaling of the drawings. When I try creating a background
page with a current drawing I have which happens to spill across 2 printed
landscape letter size pages when no scaled the title is scaled to the center
of the drawing in the printed page. This even occurs if I setup the drawing
page to scale to one page. I have the title page setup as a background of
the drawing page and have tried all the scale setting with no luck. I must be
missing somthing.

this seems to be a shortcoming in visio - I tried what you said and
same prob. There seems to be some confusion on visio's part as to
where the background should appear if it's made on 1 page but the
foreground is on more than that.

A couple of simple but really stupid workarounds ..
- grab the bits of the background that you want and drag them _up_ to
blank space ? they appear higher up on the foreground page then ...
- make the background page cover as many printed pages as you have in
your drawing ... that way you can place it more accurately, but it's
like the first workaround

One thing I noticed in fooling with this stuff, if you set the zoom on
the background by ctrl+shit+right click, then go back to the foreground
page using tab at bottom, then back to the background, it's no longer
showing the same zoom view that was set. It's not even showing the same
zoom as on the foreground page. weird huh.

I agree this is a significant rough edge. For what I paid for this product ,
and extra for the floor plan capabilities, it is a poor implementation. The
wall connections do not work well either.

Thanks, at least I am not missing somthing.

*sigh* ... isn't that what everyone does in Visio ?? ctrl+shit ....

for those who thought I might be serious, let's consider inserting F in
there somewhere.....

hehe - I'm glad I could bring you some cheer Al ...

One thing to remember:

A background page can serve as a background for more than one different
foreground page. These foregrounds could have different sizes, aspects, and
scales. So you can understand if the poor background page get's confused.

What I do is set cross-page references in the PageSheet of the background
page (using the ShapeSheet) so that the background responds to changes in
size of Page-1. The assumption is that new pages added to the document will
be the same size/scale as page 1, or that Page-1 will be resized, but Page-1
will be the only page.

A cross-page reference looks something like this:

backgroundpage: PageWidth = Guard(Pages[Page-1]!ThePage!PageWidth)

Hope this helps,
