Backing up and reinstalling

Due to a growing meltdown of Windows ME I am going for a full format and
reinstall on my main machine.

My question is ...

What is the best way to back up my settings and data (inbox etc)so that
I can reinstall it without losing everything :)

I can see how to export individual folders etc to personal folders but
am not sure how to reintegrate.

Any help appreciated!
