Backing up Categories

OF course we all know that no matter how much back up we do for one reason or another we need to reload a new operating system from time to time, Par for the course...

My question is for Entourage... how or can I back up all my projects and categories in Entourage...? I am sick and tired of having to relink all my docs, email and typing in all my categories as well as project names every time I have to reload a OS.

It might not sound like a lot of work but I am a general contractor and I have tons of categories and over 10,000 emails at any given time that I may need to review.

What is the answer or do I need to move to a CRM database like Core 2 CRM for Filemaker pro... can someone help please.

Something appears to be missing in this thread as it just starts off
of course we know how to do that but what is that?

Anyway, a backup of Entourage is fairly straightforward so that you
don't loose anything. There are many methods. You could go into the
Microsoft User Data file, to say the 2008 Identities and your active
Identity (probably Main Identity) just back this up to a remote disk
(Firewire, CD etc). You can compress it also and back it up. After
your OS install plus whatever, just move the backed up identity back
to that original location. Open Entourage and it will start with the
original identity with everything in tact. The only backup where you
loose links etc is if you back up exporting your data to an RGE file
and then import this. You are just importing raw data.

Hope that helps. I keep many backups of Entourage's Identities due to
problems in Entourage and I've had to revert to backups way more than
once.

Reloading Mac OS X should not affect categories or anything within
Entourage if you're restoring a backup of your Microsoft User Data folder.

See this page for how to back up your MUD:
