Backing up email

I am preparing to reformat my hard drive but I do not want
to lose my emails or address book. Anyone have any
thoughts on the most efficient way to back up this data
and replace it after reformatting is complete?

All mail is contained in a *.pst file. You need to back-up this (copy) and
reconnect it after reformatting (you can also use the import-export tool
under File). If you do not have your contacts in your contacts folder you
should also back-up the *.pab file.
