Backing up Outlook 2007 w/ BCM database

Hi all,

I just installed Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager (BCM) 2007.

I want to backup my BCM database but I can't figure out what the
instructions are talking about.

In the help file, step one says:

"
On the Business Contact Manager menu, point to Database Tools, and then
click Manage Database
"

However, I do not see a "Business Contact Manager" menu anywhere! even while
I'm in parts of BCM. My upper menu bar has these top level menus:

File
Edit
View
Go
Tools
Actions
Help

Does anyone know where this menu is?

Thanks,

Jim

I've tried this to no avail.

Right clicking on the tool bar gives me:

Standard
Advanced
Web
Vonage (Plugin for VoIP calling)
Customize

I've tried enabling all of them as well as going through the "Customize"
dialog.

In the "Customize" dialog, there is an entry under the "Toolbars" tab called
"Business Contact Manager for Outlook" and it has always been checked off.

However, the only buttons that are shown on the BCM toolbar are:

(From left to right...)

Business Contact Manager Home
Display
Email Auto Link
Link To Record

There is a very small icon immediately after the last button. Clicking on
this gives an option that reads "Add or Remove Buttons".
Under this entry is two more options:

Business Contact Manager for Outlook (followed with an arrow)
Customize...

The "Business Contact Manager for Outlook" option is however grayed out and
no matter what screen I am on, it will not enable itself so that I can add
buttons to the toolbar.

The "Customize" option just takes me back to the dialog above.

Are you seeing the same behavior as me?

Maybe my install of Office 2007 is just hosed... I've been experiencing
several flaws and bugs in the software since I've installed it...

Thanks,

Jim

Oh, I should have mentioned that the whole idea for backing up my BCM data
is so I can uninstall and re install Office 2007 in hopes to resolve the many
other issues I'm experiencing..

Hmmm...I'm doing a little digging...
Here is a key statement: [quote:aec2c6db7c]When Business Contact
Manager for Outlook is installed, the menus in Microsoft Office
Outlook change to include additional items. The Business Contact
Manager menu is added to the toolbar.[/quote:aec2c6db7c]
~office.microsoft.com
So it sounds like there is supposed to be an extra item on your menu
bar that is not there. Try right clicking somewhere up around the
toolbars and selecting Customize. From there you might be able to
find the command/menu and drag it onto a toolbar. I hope this works,
because it is all I could find. I will keep looking though.

Good luck.

Thanks for looking into this Steve..

I actually got the problem resolved by contacting Microsoft tech support. It
even had to get escelated to tier 2.

It turned out to be somehting related to my user account that was corrupt
and was causing Outlook and BCM to have issues. Below are the steps I took to
fix the problem. Maybe they can be useful to someone who is having similar
problems.

The fix:

run reg edit: Start->Run->regedit
Go under the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder
Then go under "Software"
Then right click on the "Microsoft" folder and export it to some file as a
backup.
After making a backup we deleted the following two folder under the
"Microsoft" category.

"BusinessSolutions eCRM"
"Office"

Then logged off of the machine and logged back in.

After this I was able to launch Outlook 2007 and BCM and I did not get any
of the crazy behaviors I was experiencing.

Best Regards,

Jim
