backing up project server

Hi,

I've just setup a project server for our product management team here and
getting ready to deploy it to them. I need to know how to back it up first.
I read an article saying I just had to backup the SQL database. I am already
doing that, however I am also concerned about the sharepoint services bit of
project server, do I also need to backup sharepoint? I was using SPS for a
while and that was a bit of a nightmare to backup and restore, is Sharepoint
Services as hard to backup and do I need to back it up? We aren't really
storing documents or anything in sharepoint, but I'm quite new at project
server and don't know how much it relies on sharepoint. I really want to
schedule a full daily backup to one of my drives that gets backed up nightly
so I can forget about it, but also want to test restoring it all to make sure
I can do it.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Billd

There isn't a third party tool you can use to make backing up simple. Just
schedule a normal SQL Database backup for you ProjectServer database. An
incremental on weekdays and preferably a full one during the weekend.

If you're using Risks, Issues and Documents (Project Workspace a.k.a WSS)
you'll need to backup your WSS database. It would be database that you have
specified when you installed WSS. I would recommend the same setup.

You can try creating a new Project Instance on the server and try restoring
with that the database on that instance.

cheers,
