Backspacing on bullets does not work

Hi I have office 2007 student. I just had to reformat my computer. When I
reinstalled Office I have noticed a problem in word.

I cant press the backspace tab to get rid of a bullet and enter to create a
new bullet only works when at least one letter has been put next to the
bullet right before


so i can make a bullet but cant make a new one by pressing enter until that
first bullet has some words next to it.
I can never backspace to delete a bullet.

PLEASE HELP, I AM A STUDENT AND ALWAYS NEED BULLET LISTS

To delete a bullet, you should certainly be able to use BackSpace. What
happens when you try?

Note that you can remove bullet formatting by applying a style that does not
include any bullets; for example, reapplying the Normal style (by pressing
Ctrl+Shift+N) should do the trick.

Bullet (or numbering) formatting is cleared when you press Enter twice; this
is by design. In other words, you will have to type something for bullet
formatting to remain (as you have noticed).

For more control, use bulleted styles instead. Word includes built-in
bulleted styles named List Bullet, List Bullet 2, etc., which you can apply
via the Apply Styles pane (Ctrl+Shift+S).

I have the exact same problem and have tried the Normal style suggestion. Doesn't work. I also tried going to file, options, proofing, autocorrect option, autoformat as you type and make sure there is a checkmark next to "set left and first indent with tabs and backspaces". Neither suggestion fixes this extremely frustrating issue. It is messing up so many of my documents!
