Backup and restore website PWA

alex

Hi,

I try to backup and restore a website PWA, I want to get the customisation
of my pages (webpart, hidden left pane or right pane by click).

I don't find any book or document walk through restore and backup.
except some links as:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197471.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197393.aspx -> Playbooks.exe

My process is the following:
Backup the 4 databases.
Restore the 4 databases.
Create a project web access link to these databases.

In that case, I have the datas, but not the configuration.
So I use Playbooks.exe to get the configuration.
I do a restore by this tools, I obtain some errors(custom fields) but I can
understand nothing is perfect.

But, when I display my website, I don't have the same web page, webpart
added has been disapeared.

1\So I try to use stsadm by using export PWA A and import the PWA A on the
PWA B. B is the new website PWA with the restored databases.
In that case, I obtain an error because I can't replace a share point master
page by this way and my pwa doesn't work.(error says: enablesessionstate to
true, after figure out on internet, I'm convince I should use sharepoint
designer but I don't have more experience on it)

2\
So I try to use stsadm by using backup PWA A and restore the PWA A on the
PWA B. B is the new website PWA with the restored databases.
In that case, everything is working except, when I access to PWA B, I obtain
troubleshoots and in my event viewer I obtain these errors:

Cannot start queue. SSP: 8688bebf-c6ef-4c83-b250-0a0513c17a4f SiteUID:
b03e2963-22af-4588-8aa1-8169021cf6fa Url: Queue: TimesheetQ

I think I should modify other elements.
Or maybe my method is the wrong method.

Do you have any idea?

best regards,
Alexandre

I find this link:

http://blogs.msdn.com/brismith/archive/2007/10/24/backup-and-restore-what-are-the-options.aspx

The person says:
1. Re-provision your /PWA site to a different location - such as /PWA2,
and all your old content will still be under /PWA and you will still be able
to get to it. This is a good way to work going forward as you now have two
independent locations for your PWA site and your other WSS content.
2. Don't attach the original content db and provision your PWA site to
/PWA, then attach your content db to another web application (different
port). You can then re-link your projects to point to the different location
for the content.
3. An extension of option 2 - you could use stsadm export and import
functions to copy the individual workspaces from their new location back
under /PWA - and all is back how it was - well almost.
So maybe I don't have understand the process, or I did something wrong.

Any idea?

Alexandre

Hi Gagan Goel,

I try the solution, but I have some problem,
I did a backup from a system with an active directory (and farm application
server).
I try to restore this backup to a server standalone(everything is installed
on the same computer)

I obtain the error
"Directory does not exist or the SQL Server service account and the user
service account do not have permission to read or write to the backup folder.
Specify a different directory."

so i'm not sure it's working in my case.

Best regards,
Alex

I verify the rights on my share folder and the ntfs right. I put everyone all
access.
I also map a network drive.
but it's not working.

Do you have any idea?

From DB perspective it may need security admin or even SA rights to work
properly.

Hi,

I verify the rights and everything is fine.
So I give you more informations about that maybe you will have an answer.

Computer A has EPM/SQL/SharePoint
So I use a user mspuser, this one is administrator of the computer A and
sysadmin/(I add Securityadmin, serveradmin, setupadmin by your suggestion SA).

I process by try to backup on another computer B. I connect by start->run
\\170.251.77.37\bd\27052008_sharepoint
Enter alex and mypassword. (it's not mspuser)

On the directory, everyone can be writed.
But I process to another backup and obtain the same error
Directory \\170.251.77.37\bd\27052008_sharepoint does not exist or the SQL
Server service account and the ComputerA\mspuser service account do not have
permission to read or write to the backup folder. Specify a different
directory.

I decided to do the same thing as when I use teamfoundation with build.
I enter a share on the computer B.
I obtain the same errors...

So my conclusion is... something is wrong but why.
any idea?

So I add everyone on the folder on my computerA and now it's working.
I try the process to restore and I will do a feedback.

Hi,

I did the restore.
So I choose the PWA website to restore without the SSP. Because if I choose
the SSP, I should restore 3 PWA websites and I don't wish. So After to
restore, I don't have acces to my pwa, it's normal because no one ssp is
associated.
So how can I associate my PWA to ssp?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi,

When I did that, I can't select on pwa website.
So I don't know how to investigate more.

Thanks for your answer.
