Backup of Access Runtime file

How can a user backup a MS access runtime database (i.e. an .mde file installed with Access 2003 runtime code). If the user makes a file copy, will this copy also work under the same runtime licence/code?

Presumably this file copy won't work on another PC without MS ACCESS but will work on any PC with a compatible version of Access
