Backup Problem with OneNote

B

BobT

I am unable to continue backing up OneNote

I get an error message that some of my Section names are to long (over 256
characters). It says I should rename the Sections.

Try as I might (by right-clicking on Section names, clicking Rename Section
and trying to rename it) I get the same message on trying to Backup.

Any help would be appreciated

ISTR the maximum size of a file name including all of its paths from the
root of the drive is 256 characters. Try closing OneNote, and renaming the
*.ONE file from Windows Explorer. Your top level "My Notebook" folder is
found by default under c:\documents and settings\{yourname}\My Documents\.
From there, navigate to the section file in question and try to rename it
to a shorter name.

Ben, I found out today, that I can rename them if I change the name- I can
not just untruncate the long names!

Having to change the name of a folder does not seem efficient to me?

I am not sure I understand your question. I am using the Backup option in
Options of OneNote.

That works= howerver, now some of my Sections have disappeared from OneNote
when I open it.
