Hi,
In MSP 2003 , there was an option thru which we could back up and restore
the global.mpt file (under enterprise option) i am looking for something on
the similar line in EPM 2007. Do we have such option thru which i can back up
or restore the global.mpt in EPM 2007?

Thanks in advance. any help would be highly appreciated.

Log into PWA with administrator permissions and then click Server Settings.
In the Database Administration section of the Server Settings pack, click
either Administrative Backup to manually back up the Enterprise Global, or
click Schedule Backup to set up an automatic back up of the Enterprise
Global. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale ,

Thnx so much for ur reply. I have tried this method but the problem in this
case is that when i say backup Enterprise Global , it dosent ask me the
location whr to save the same and hence i donot know whr it gets saved.
similarly when i say restore, that time as well , the location is not asked
as to which file is to be restored but it restores.

Thru some sources i have found that thru this pages option it saves to and
restores from Archive DB but not sure of the same.

I really need a way for this as this is a common and frequent requirement at
our end.

Kindly reply if any help is available on the same.

Thnx

Its backedup all data into the Archive DB and restore it from the same
Archive Db.

But through this option you will be able to restore the previous day work,
when you use schedule backup.

Hope it help!

The backup of the Enterprise Global is saved in the Archive database in
Project Server 2007. The system restores the backed up Enterprise Global
from the same location. The system DOES NOT save the backed up Enterprise
Global as an .mpt file, as Project Server 2003 did previously. Therefore,
your only choices are to use the automatic backup or the manual backup of
the Enterprise Global. Hope this helps.

You can also use playbooks to backup/restore the enterprise global items. It
is available in the Project Server 2007 resource kit. It save the enterprise
global as a XML file and can be moved from server to server. It also has a
merger or overwrite feature.

Hope this helps

Hi Ray,

I did try playbooks.exe but it did not work.. infact my global.mpt which had
got migrated.. got deleted.... dont really know if that was the cause... but
this is wut happened...

Does this playbooks.exe really work coz i tried and it didnt...

I hope i m executing it correctly..

i downloaded the kit and executed the playbooks.exe , gave the server name
and pwd , selected only enterprise global and said backup...

it did create an xml file but it was not readable and also semed to be
incomplete.. when i tried restoring the same file thru playbook it did not
restaore it as well...

Please Note : by enterprise global , i mean the Macro which is wriiten in
the MSP. We have about 6000 lines of macro and i m trying to back and restore
the same.

Please advice if i m goin wrong..

I have never tried playbooks on 6000 lines of macro, but it does work on
small vba modules. It is very possible that the 6000 lines of macro maybe a
problem for playbooks. If the macro is the main object of this you can use
the Visual Basic editor to export the vbs modules and forms, they can be
imported the same way.

Hope this helps
