Backup / Restore Hosted Deployment / Multiple Instances

Hello,

creating multiple instances of Project Server on one machine with the
EditSite tool is no problem.

But how to (backup) / restore such a setup? I backup all databases (includig
the additional databases for the additional instances) according to the
Disaster and Recovery Guide, but I don't know how to recover the additional
instances of Project Server?

I recovered all Databases (WSS Config DB, WSS Content DB, Project Server DB
(default instance), DB of additional Project Server instance), reinstalled
WSS and connected it to the WSS DBs, reinstalled Project Server and connected
it to the default instance DB) - this works fine. WSS and Project Server
(default instance) are up and running again.
When trying to access the additional instance i get a "site not found"
error. When opening EditSiteTool the additional instance is displayed, but
when testing it (button Test) I get the message "failed" under Virtual
Directory and MSADC.

There is no hint in the Disaster Recovery Guide concerning multiple instances.

Please help.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Two parts.

Let's say the server room burned down and all you have is the backup tapes.

(a) Get new servers and install a brand new Project Server system with WSS
(Windows SharePoint Services).

(b) Restore your first ProjectServer database. Change the restore "name" to
a different name than the one that you used when you created the new system
above in (a).

(c) For SharePoint, you don't need any of the WSS config databases. You
just need to restore the STS_servername_1 databases.

(d) Use Edit Site to connect the ProjectServer database and use the last tab
to associate the correct STS_ database to each ProjectServer instance. You
need to have saved the port number of each Sharepoint SIte (i.e.
http://servername:1234).

(e) Once that's done, you need to configure each WSS database from PWA
through Central Administration. Just type in 905386 on microsoft.com search
box and get instructions. You need to do the steps under "Configure Windows
SharePoint Services" on that KB article 905386.

This is a short and compact answer so you'll need to fill in the
intermediate steps. You said you know how to use Edit Site so I didn't go
into that.

If that doesn't work, please repost...

I am also in a similar boat. I am however wondering what is the meaning of
"change the restore name to a different name in part (b)?

I am trying to port my porject server 2003/sql2000sp3a/wss to a new server
with a new name.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
aziz
