P
PS.
I've just migrated from Office 2002 to Office 2007 on Win XP Pro, and looking
for a way to save and restore my settings. I gather from a brief web search,
that there are two tools for Office 2007 cited as being available, the "easy
transfer tool" and the "user state migration tool". That sounds promising.
I've done the migration, and now doing the backup. I need some help though.
The easy transfer tool (correct me if wrong) doesn't allow transfer from XP
to XP. It's saying (on microsoft's website) that it will only transfer to a
target Vista machine only. The USMT does work on XP, but having downloaded
and installed it, the help on how to use it links to an "XML Examples" page
all about XML only. I'm an artist, I haven't a clue about XML. So I
don't know what stuff like this means:
<variable name="myAppExePath">
<!-- make a call to in-built helper function to get a value from a
reg key and assign that value to the variable -->
<script>MigXMLHelper.GetStringContent("Registry","HKLM\Software\MyApp\Installer [EXEPATH]")</script>
<script>MigXmlHelper.GenerateDrivePatterns ("\Requests\* [*] ",
"Fixed")</script>
<script>MigXmlHelper.GenerateDrivePatterns ("*\Requests\* [*] ",
"Fixed")</script>
</objectSet>
</include>
etc. (

Can someone help work out how a regular XP user migrates their Office 2007
settings? I don't need user files copied, just the settings. I'd appreciate
it. I really can't manually set up every machine I use, there's dozens of
them! And I'm stuck in the middle of my new setup unable to go forward
without someone's help.
