Backward Compatability of Works and Office products

I just purchased a new computer with Windows XP Home
Edition. It comes with Works 6.0, but I'm not sure that
6.0 is sufficiently robust to handle our word processing,
e-mail, spreadsheet and other needs. Therefore, we may
want to upgrade to another MS application package. Either
way, with Works 6.0 or with an upgraded package, we need
to know whether these applications are backward compatable
with our Office 95 files.

Therefore, could someone please tell me with respect to
the following products that I've seen advertised, I'd like
to know whether I can access old Office 95 files (Word,
Excel, PPT):

Works 6.0
Office XP Standard (CD)
Office XP 2002 Standard
Office XP Small Business OEM
Office 2003 Student and Teacher Edition
Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers

Finally, if we do upgrade our applications, is it
advisable to uninstall Works 6.0? We need a simple data
base application and I don't know if the upgrades have
one. I understand that 6.0 might have a simple data base
application. If so, can we keep Works 6.0 for the data
base application and the Office software both?

Thank you.
