Yes it does. If you insert Early Finish and Late Finish Columns you can see
that both the forward and backward pass have been performed.

One more detail to Richard answer :
To set the backward scheduling in MS Project, go to Project / Project
Information... Schedule from : Project Finish Date

Project carries out both forward and backward passes - that's how it
calculates the critical path. However, don't schedule backwards from the
finish as every task is then critical and you've lost all flexibility!
