Backwards compatibility with Vista

1) Is MS Office XP compatible with Vista? Are there any patches needed?
I am considering buying a new system and I do mainly basic word processing
and a little Excel.

2) Can I create and format a Word XP document, use it on another computer with
Office 2007 and still see the exact same thing?
It appears that in order to use Office XP on one computer and Office 2007 on
another, to transfer files back and forth, one needs a compatibility add-on.
Is this true and how does it work?

Thanks

Yes and no. You can set the default "save" settings in Office 2007 to be
Office 97-2002....or you can install the add-in on your prior versions of
Office. AFAIK that only allows them to open office 2007 docs, and not to
save them as Office 2007 docs...
