Bad hyperlink in powerpoint

I am running Office v X on a (networked) iMac and stand-alone
Powerbook. Identical OS (10.3.7) and, so far as I can tell, identical
Office setup. Creating a hyperlink in ppt to a word doc (so that it
opens with one click from the presentation) performs properly from my
iMac but causes word to crash ("report bug to Apple") when I do exactly
the same thing on the PB. I've checked the disk, run permissions etc
but to no avail. As I want to do a presentation using the PB this is
annoying. Any ideas?
