I'm running OS 10.3.9 and recently had Word X replaced by Word 2004. I
don't print hardcopies a whole lot, but recently when I have, I've
noticed rather sketchy output on my networked HP LaserJet 1200N.
Specifically, I'm not too happy with the way Times New Roman 12 or 11
point is looking in hardcopy.
Right now I can't directly test whether it's my printer or driver by
printing something in Times New Roman to another printer. But in the
past I have printed to a different printer, a beefy Xerox, from this
same computer running Word 2004 with a document in a different font,
Futura Std Book, with no problems. And I don't think I had any problem
previously with Word X printing to my HP LJ1200N.
Also, I have noticed that Word 2004 particularly dislikes printing
embedded graphic files to my 1200N, while it can print them to that
other Xerox.
So I'm wondering whether:
a. there are known problems with Word 2004 and HP printers like the
1200N
b. there are known problems with Word 2004 and fonts in general
c. upgrading Word 2004 (done by a tech support guy, not me) may have
hosed the fonts somehow
Maybe it's as easy as reinstalling the printer software. But it
doesn't appear to me like the driver for this printer has been updated
since 2002.
