Bar Graph Animation

I have a bar graph in PowerPoint 2003 and I wanted to have each bar fly in
from the bottom one at a time. I can figure out how to animate each of the
bars but only with the Entrance--Appear effect. I can get it to fly in all
at once, but that's not what I want to do. Is there a way to have each bar
fly in one at a time? Thanks.

Give the graph an entrance animation of Wipe (from bottom)
Double click the entry in custom animation and in the chart animation tab
choose group chart by series (or maybe catagory?) Untick animate grid & legend

That worked perfectly! Thank you. It was changing the Entrance to Wipe that
did it. I was trying to get the effect with Fly In, which didn't work one at
a time, and had settled for appear.

OK, now I have another question! Although the animation works correctly,
there are extra animations that don't seem to do anything. I have graphs
with 4 categories, each containing three bars. I have the animation set to
work by category. Each category wipes in from the bottom with animations 1-4
as it should, but there's also a 5th animation that doesn't seem to do
anything. When I delete it, the entire animation gets deleted. When in
slideshow view, I have to click or arrow over for the extra animation to get
to the next slide, so I'd like to get rid of it. Why is this happening, and
how can I fix it?

Do you have an extra category in your chart?

Double-click the chart to activate it, View|Datasheet, and select the 5th
column and hit Ctrl+X to cut it. (Your remaining 4 categories will adjust to
fill the space.)

Unfortunatly, you can't remove the animation from one category without
removing the animation for the entire chart, so I have a feeling this might
be the issue.

And once again, thank you! Even though the 5th column was blank on the
datasheet, Ctrl/X did apparently remove the extra column because the
problem's now resolved.

Glad to hear it. (Sorry I didn't see your question earlier. Two days is a
long time to wait for an answer.)

I often run across these extraneous columns when cleaning up presentation
files -- it happens to a lot of people, because it's so easy to delete the
data but not realize that MS Graph still maintains space for it unless you
sepecifically tell it not to.
