bar graph of custom x-values

hi all,

i want to use my own values for the x-axis in a bar graph. however, it
only lets me use the cell numbers, and takes the values in column a,
and makes them into another series along with the values in columns b,
c, and d. in other words, i'd like to take the values in column a, and
make those the corresponding values for the other columns. i know that
this works for scatter plots, but i can't get it to work for bar
graphs.

Before you insert the chart only select the heading plus values of the
data that determines the bar lengths.

In Step 2 of the Chart Wizard click on the Series Tab, then, in the
"Category (X) axis labels:" box either type in the address of the
values or click on the button on the right of that box then select the
range of cells with the X axis labels, then click the button again then
do the remaining Chart Wizard steps.
