Bar Labels

How can I add a free text label onto a Gantt bar? I have
customised Text1 field and renamed this to test but when I
pick this field from the Bar Text box nothing is displayed.

Any ideas?

Not quite sure I understand what you mean.

The field is already called Text1, if I pick that from the
list of fields in the Bar text box (to be on the left of
the bar) it does not appear anywhere on the Gantt chart

If i rename the field to TEST in the customise fields box
and then pick that from the bar text box, it still does
not appear!

Hi sw

are you sure you're customising a "task" field not a "resource" field?

if you are - what version of project & what service packs have you
installed?

I have gone to Tools/ Customise/ Fields. Picked Text1 and
renamed this to TEST, clicked on OK.

In the Gantt Chart I have then double clicked on one of my
gantt bars, selected the Bar Text tab and in the left
section picked TEST (Text1), from the drop down menu that
displays the list of fields.

I would then expect to see this as a label on my gantt
bar, although I assume that this is what it will do!?!. At
the moment nothing appears.

I am in Project 2000, unfortunately I do not know what
Service pack I have installed.

Hi Sw

okay - under tools / customise / fields - you have the choice of task or
resource fields (before you choose text 1) .. only task fields can be shown
in the gantt chart - have you checked that it is a task field that you've
customised and not a resource one.

secondly, the test (text1) field needs to have some data in it before it can
show on the gantt chart, have you inserted the test (text1) column in the
sheet area and entered some text in there for the task that you want to show
it for.

let us know how you go with the above two steps.

Julie,

It was the second part, entering a column and putting some
text in that I had missed out! I thought you could just
add the name of the field onto the Gantt bar.

It all works now, thanks so much for all your help!
