Bars different sizes in gantt chart view

I find that even though the duration for several tasks is the same, the view
in the gantt chart shows these tasks as being different durations. I thought
it may print accurately, but it doesn't....

Hello,

Could you check that the resources assigned to these tasks have different
calendars with different # of Hours/day?

Hi Hil_Jozi,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Duration is a measure of working time, so a 5 day task shows a longer bar if
it spans a weekend, and even more if it spans a non-working time period like
company holidays.

Hi Mike Glen,

Thanks for your response. It makes sense about the task falling over
non-working time, but the task durations I'm trying to indicate, are in hours
and range from 2.5 hrs to 5 hrs and so on. The problem I'm experiencing is
that several tasks, each with a duration of 2.5 hrs, all show bars of varying
sizes.....

Kind regards,

Hilary

Hi Gérard,

I haven't assigned any resources to these tasks yet.

Hil_Jozi,

If you have durations with decimal numbers, the display on the screen is not
always the same besides the timescale because of some round value: to the
upper or to the lower value.

Hi there,

Thanks, I see what Project is doing now wrt the non-working time over
weekends, but I wasn't thinking of the overnight non-working hours! However,
I've set the calendar working time to 10 hours/day and the duration for a
particular task is 10 hours - it seems strange that Project would indicate
the bar starting at the beginning of the day up until the beginning of the
next day. Maybe this is just the way Project is set up, but is there a way of
stopping this happening?

Kind regards,

Hilary

Hi Hilary,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

In the Gantt Chart view, right click in a blank area of the chart, select
Layout... and uncheck "Round bars to whole days".
