Bars Spanning non working time

C

Chris.

I have read various topics and they seem to confirm that you cannot change
the appearance of bars spanning non working time. This is a fundamental
presentation requirement.

At a basic level, I have some tasks that can work over Ramadan and some that
cannot. It appears that I have only 2 opitons. Either all activities appear
to work over Ramadan or all appear not to using the "in front" or "behind"
setting for non working time.

The only way of getting around this appears to be to have seperate projects
for different calendars and have the non working time shading in fornt of the
task bars. This is not a great solution as the visual flow of logic is lost.
Surely MS are going to create a setting that allows task bars to "neck" or
simlpy not span the non working time according to the calendar assigned to
them.

Please let me know is this is available and I simply can't find the setting!!!

Thanks in advance.... Chris.

Chris,
Sorry, the "option" setting you're looking for does not exist. The
upcoming version of Project 2010 may or may not have more graphics
functionality, I don't know. However you could try this alternate
approach. Set the option to show task bars in front of non-working time.
This will show tasks that can work over that period. Then for tasks that
cannot work over the non-working period, break them up into parts. For
example, if a task spans the non-working time, break it into as many
parts as necessary so that each part only covers working time.

Not the easy solution you're looking for, but it will get what you want.

Hi Chris -
Have you considered splitting the tasks where work may not occurr during
Ramadan? Initially, you will show your task on one line stretching through
the period. On the first day of Ramadan, right click on the task and select
"Split Task." You may drag the remainer of the effort to where ever you need
it to be.

You can create multiple calendars within Project. Make a new calendar with
the days of Ramadan set to non-working time. Assign this calendar to the
specific tasks you need. Calendars may be created under Tools/Change Working
Time... then select new a the bottom. However, this does not hide the tasks
during no working time.
