Base. Work at Resource Usage View

R

Ryan

Dear all,

When I tried to open an existing project and view the Resource Usage, the
Base. Work for all the tasks under an resource have values. However, the
Base. Work on the resource's name's row does not show the accumulated value
for all tasks while Work and Act. Work have the accumulated values. I found
the solution is simply to reset the baseline. However, it seems the value was
lost again when next time I open the project again. Does any one know apart
from setting the baseline each time I open the project, any way to make it
show the accumulated value for the tasks on the resources? Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,
Ryan

Hello Ryan,

If I understand your question, you cannot see Baseline Work on the
resource row in the Resource Usage view. Is the problem on the table
(left side) or the timescaled (right) side? What shows in the row?

I'm confused by your comment about "accumulated" values. On the table
side -- you should see total baseline work for the resource -- it
doesn't accumulated. On the right side, you should see baseline work
per unit (hour, day, week etc) based upon your zoom setting.

I assume this only occurs on one project -- if you create a new
project and save a baseline do you see the baseline work as expected?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi, it is on the timescaled (right) side. It just doesn't have value on the
base.work in resource rows. However, it does have value on the tasks below
the resources. About the "accumulated" value, I just guess project
professional will add up all the base. work on the tasks that the resource
has and sum it to the base. work in resource row. Just guessing, am I wrong?
And Yes, I created a new project and saved a baseline and it shows the
accumulated base. work for all the tasks the resource owns.
Thanks.

Hello Ryan,

Well, there is something amiss in the project file that is not showing
baseline work on the summary row. Is this a consolidated file made up
of multiple inserted projects? What version (including service pack)
of project are you using?

You may have a corrupt file. On a copy, try the steps outlined on FAQ
#43 "Handling project file corruption and/or bloat" at

I don't quite understand what do you mean by "consolidated file made up of
multiple inserted projects". The version is MS Office Project 2007 and NO
service pack is installed. Thanks.

Hello Ryan,

A consolidated project file is one that is a "master" container for
multiple project files. You can consolidate multiple files by
choosing Insert > Project. However, it doesn't sound as though that
is what you are using. (The reason I asked that question was because
we saw some unusual problems with consolidate files recently.)

You note you are using Project 2007 without a service pack. My first
recommendation is to install SP-1 and see if that helps. If not, post
back and we'll take it to the next step.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
