Baseline - Entered or Calcuated rollups

I’m having a problem/ question with the baseline rollup option because we
have come across a situation where the Baseline Work on the summary task did
not rollup as expected.

1) How come when we manually enter e.g., Baseline Work (task field), that
the rollup to the summary does sum up when we have the summary task selected
and the option “From subtasks into selected summary task(s)†checked?

2) Is it possible flush out what the baseline value MS Project using on a
task i.e, to restore the original baseline value that was over manually over
written without rebaselining the task (which could be different from the
original baseline)?

3) I was doing some troubleshooting on this issue, and we found that in one
particular instance, MS Project failed to rollup the baseline even though I
did not manually change any of the baseline values. In this case it was the
Baseline Cost field (summary task) that did not sum up. Could be that this
is a bug? We are using MS Pro 2007 SP2.

1) This might be a silly question from my side, but why would you be changing Baseline values manually? If there was a situation to update the baseline, it should come from the planned values for that task , so that when actual values are input, these planned values change, but not the baseline.

2)No, unless you stored the original baseline in another baseline initially so that you can copy it back.

1) I'm wondering the same thing ;)
I have no practical reason for entering baseline values manually except for
trying to troubleshooting this summary rollup problem I described. The
attribute of these baseline fields are defined by MS Project help as
calculated or "entered". It would seem that "entered" doesn't work very well
when it comes to summing baseline data on summary row.

2) Thanks for response on this one!

3) Any ideas why the rollup doesn't always work properly? I've seen another
thread in this newsgroup section complaining about the same thing. So I am
inclined to think that there is a bug here, since entered values do not sum
up, and calculated values also seem to not work from time to time.
