Baseline question

Hi there,
Being new to MA Project I completed by schedule and after a few week
have updated % complete on a few tasks _before__baselining.
I have now Baselined after these changes.

How do I get my schedule to represent the baseline as if I baseline
before updating the project schedule

Clear the baseline
remove your progress
save a baseline
enter your progress again.

It is sometimes convenient to save the progress enterred earlier by copying
it to spare text fields.

The only thing I would add to Jim's answer is that you may wish to consider
just baselining as is. The point of a baseline is to capture the estimates
based on what you now know about the project - as of the specific moment in
time at which you take the baseline.

If you're saving a baseline for a project in progress, I'd recommend just
baselining as is. That makes it a more realistic (i.e. relevant) baseline.

Please recognize that Andrew's approach will forgive all variances up to the
baseline point and sets EV=PV=AC. As long as you accept this realization,
you are ok.

The risk is a task that is running over budget (or behind schedule) now
shows no variance and lets you believe the project is happy when it may not
be in reality.

Thanks, so I tried Jim's approach but heres the scenario:

My Task started 12 Oct and ends 26 Oct (88 hrs Work). But to date onl
'Actual Work' 56 hours have been done. i.e. we are behind shedule.

I cleared baseline, removed the 56 hrs from the Task, saved th
baseline again (saved on 26 Oct), and entered the 'Actual Work' of 5
hours again.

Now it shows Work Variance as zero?

Shouldnt MSP now determine that I am behind shedule and show the En
date to be 30 Oct? ( because there is still (88 - 56) 32 hours lef
which is 4 days (8 hr day) so 26 Oct + 4 days is 30 Oct)

I should be able to view that my project is now 4 days behind

Thanks Mike, I suppose I could Google it, but please explain the
signifcance of the Status Date?

Jim Aksel

You need to take status as of a specific date.
Project/Project Information and set your status date there.

You may want to look at my blog, I have a white paper on %Complete. It
probably is more in depth than you need, but it may be helpful. Just read
the first part.
