Basic Groove ?

Hi all,

I just got Office 2007 and had 2 questions

1) I notice Groove is free with Office 2007, but then saw on the Office
website that Groove Live is $80 per year. So am I correct that Groove is
still free with Office 2007 or do I have to pay that price as well?

2) I have a desktop and laptop and have to share my data amongst the 2
machines as I travel often. Does anyone know the total storage/share limit
on a groove account? I have over 1GB of data to sync between the 2 machines.

Hi Abe, and welcome to Groove.

If you got Groove as part of Office 2007, you don't need to pay any
subscription charges.

There's no total upper limit on storage or sharing but each space should be
no bigger than 2 gig. After that, Groove refuses to allow new members in,
even though existing members are still synchronized.

Hope this helps!

Mark, Would this be a sufficient tool then to share files across my two
computers?

Also since Groove works on the P2P fashion. Doesnt Groove store the files
for sometime on their servers so if I upload files to a workspace and then
your not online you can get them when you come online even if IM not online.

Appreciate the advice and if there is more detailed information on the MSFT
site that would be great. Their main groove page didnt seem to give me all
that much support.

Abe -

There's a 2gb limitation that is described in more detail here -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;916412

As explained in the above - the issue is more to do with the buffering than
the 'workspace size' - the workspace does still get synchronized even after
2gb. Groove does not send out invitations for 2gb or more sized workspaces.
The recommendation would be to have multiple (<2gb) sizeable workspaces.

Hi Abe,

Here some answers to your question 1) from a licensing point of view

Groove is included in Office 2007 Enterprise edition and Ultimate
edition only. These Enterprise and Ultimate editions being the most
expensive versions of Microsoft Office, I would not consider Groove
being free with Office 2007...

Office 2007 and Groove 2007 licenses allow you to install the software
on a desktop AND a laptop, provided it's for the same user.

Groove Live does NOT allow this. It is limited to one single PC.
Therefore, I believe that Microsoft Office Groove 2007 better matches
your needs.

Best regards,
Jan

We have Office 2007 Enterprise. How can I configure my Groove client to
access the Live Groove Server and is it "free" of any additional
charges?jan.talens@hommesetprocess_nospam_.com> wrote in message

Hi Sam,

Office Groove 2007 that ships with Office 2007 Enterprise edition
includes free of charge use of Microsoft's public Groove relay services.
You don't need to configure anything for this. Groove finds its way.

In case you prefer a more professionnal approach and benefit from
increased relay services, manage Groove users and manage security
policies, then you would need to purchase Groove Enterprise Services or
install Groove servers, depending on the number of users.
You then will create configuration keys that users would need to apply.

Best regards,
Jan
