Basic Project 2003 feature question

I have a simple question that I cannot seem to figure out from online
material.

I want to set up alerts based on my project, can this be done?

example- if a task is set up, then I want an alert or some type of
notification to either the resource name or user to tell me that an
action is required at the start of a task or perhaps prior to a task
date, or even a follow up activity.

does project do this?
can project do it in conjunction with another program, or is there any
custom add in?

thanks

Johnny

Hi,

With Project 2003 the preferred solution is to use Project Server. PS
enables all sorts of notifications by email. However, it's not a simple
install and is usually part of a larger project management information
system implementation.
