Im new to project and im not to hot with project management
terminology so forgive me.

I have a task that will last 2 days. I know that this task will occur
between two dates and the duration between those dates is 10 days.

How can i show on my Project that the task in only 2 days but will
occur in this 10 day period.

Thanks in advance.

1. Give the task a name.
2. Set the Duration field to 10d
3. If the Start isn't the date you want, then set the start date to the
correct date. This will automatically calculate the Finish date and allow
for things like weekends.
4. If the Work column isn't showing, insert it.
5. Set Work to 2d.

Project is a very rich environment. You should invest in a book or two and
read through them. They are a wise investment and will pay off handsomely.

The duration is 2 days, thats the time between when work starts and when it
ends. It can occur as early as the start of the 10 day period, as
determined by what? Create a link from the task that must conclude in order
for this one to start and that will determine when this one is scheduled to
begin. It will be scheduled to finish 2 days later. If appropriate you can
set a deadline at the 10 day mark so you can get a "heads up" alert if it
gets delayed past that.

The idea of project *management* as that you don't just receive word as to
when it's going to start and finish by , it's your job to decide when it
needs to start and finish and then you tell the person doing it "John I need
you to start this on Tuesday and I need it finished by Friday at the
latest." PM is not just tracking in retrospect, it's planning and
coordinating what people are going to do in the future. They're the
orchestra - you're the conductor and composer.
