basic steps to encrypt a file

I take my work home and I want to encrypt my word files as security. What are
the basic steps. I have Microsoft Professional XP Verision 2002

Hi Gordon,

Use a suitable encryption package - and don't forget the password. This really isn't anything to do with Word, though.

Update: Word 2007 has built-in encryption you can use but, since you're using Word 2002, this isn't applicable.

Under Tools > Options > Security (or Tools > Security in the Save Dialog)
you can set a password for encyption of a Word document. If you click on the
Advanced button you can choose from various encryption methods of varying
strengths.
