basic understanding of OneNote

Just got this, and am playing around. I seem to be getting separate side
note windows when I clip screens, then paste them into an area in one of my
pages. I have set the option to only copy to clipboard, so I guess the side
notes appear as I paste.

I am trying to logically understand what OneNote actually is. It's almost
like a freelance page layout program, if I understand correctly. In that
case, however, I am curious to know whether, if I were to go crazy and start
pasting away on a page, would I get tons of side note windows popping up? I
guess what I'm asking is whether OneNote, at any point, or by some key stroke
initiated by me, "merges" (so to speak) the things that are objects pasted
down into one document that is basically just a snapshot of it all? Or does
it have to remain separate, because that's what allows the individual blocks
to be treated as editable text?

Thanks for any clarification on what the "theory" of OneNote is. Looks to
be a potentially exciting shift in how I organize, but still working on how
to make the mental shift.

May I suggest that you view the introductory video Microsoft has posted?
