BCM 2007 crashes when accessing contacts brought in from ACT 2007

I am trying to import two separate ACT 2007(9) databases into BCM 2007. I
have SP1. Am following Lon Orenstein's book and paper where I can. I am
hitting three problems:

First database contact 1634 entries:
a) When I ask BCM to add additional fields the conversion stops with an
error part way through

b) If I remove the request to use additional fields BCM stops processing the
database after 1272 entries. I can convert these but it is obviously not
them all. I can see the names in the "Phone list" and can see the accounts
in the Account list. But if I click on any entry (accoubnt or contact)
OUTLOOK (BCM) immediately crashes.

c) If I import a different database (1082 entries) I can see them in BCM
(but only 1060 of them) . Again when I click on any contact or account
OUTLOOK crashes.

Really frustrating

I have run the ACT database utilities to clean up teh database both from
within act and sepatarely

Anyone any ideas?

Additional information
Just as a test I tried converting the standard ACTdemo9 database that comes
with Act. I had made no changes to it and simply ran the data converter.
Same again. Outlook BCM shows all teh contacts but as soon as I click on one
it crashes

So it can't simply be that there is something wrong with my databases, can it.

I'm having the same issues. Sometimes it will even let me work for a little
bit before it crashes. I'll reboot and it still does it. I've repaired (not
reinstalled) Outlook with BCM, I've reimported the ACT files, all appears to
go well... then I get the error! Very frustrating! I've been using ACT for
years and really want to be rid of it. I want to use BCM as I think it will
be a viable, user-friendly db for our company - but not if we can't "use" it!
Anyone, please help!!!!

I am having the same problem as well. We just installed BCM 2007. I converted
all of my ACT contacts into to BCM. Most of it converted ok - there are just
a few issues that I'm trying to fix along the way. I have been working in BCM
but I did have a crash early on. Somehow I was able to fix it, I'm not sure
how I did it. I have continued to work in BCM for several weeks now, but
today it crashed big time. I cannot even click on the BCM home button or
click on anything to do with BCM - it will crash right now. I have tried to
reconnect to the dbase, I have tried to defrag the dbase - nothing is fixing
it. I don't want to go back to using ACT, but I'm in the middle of a project.
What do I do????

BCM crashes are best handled by Microsoft. The crash will produce a
Watson record in the Windows Event Logs, and with the information in
there Microsoft support can see where in BCM the crash occurred and
perhaps advise you. You could also try turning on BCM logging in the
BCM About dialog and seeing if the logs provide a clue about what's
wrong.

About the ACT conversion stopping, typically that's a problem with a
corrupt record in ACT, and deleting that record in ACT will fix that
problem.

A week later and no solutions. Meanwhile, I gave up, simply upgraded ACT to
ACt10 (whch works on Vista) and have been following up contacts and clients
every since.

Wasn't completely clean but got support easily and it works. Frankly BCM
might be a great idea but I want to act on and work with customers and record
their data: Not than fiddle around with technology.

BCM loses out big time when it stops you doing that. My recommendation:
Leave BCM alone, and just work with ACT - sorry guys.

Thanks guys - it's really strange that Thursday, all of a sudden, I was able
to click on may BCM accounts & contacts folders. Every time I clicked on them
though, I got this box that popped up saying something about not shutting
down correctly. I would have to click ok and I was able to continue on with
my project. This happened every time I clicked on a folder. Now today, BCM
crashes my whole Outlook again if I click on anything that has to do with BCM.

As far as my ACT records, I have them all imported. My only issues were that
the dates of my letter files & notes did not import correctly. The dates
changed to the date of my import vs. the date that I entered it in ACT. All
my sales calls/appts dates imported correctly though.

I may have to figure out a different contact manager. My IT Guy doesn't want
me to go back to ACT - he says my version is unsupported and they keep
changing hands. We are thinking about trying the free Tiger contact manager.
