BCM Compared...

Greetings,

We are currently in the process of evaluating contact managemen
systems for our sales team. The new version of BCM makes it a ver
viable solution. The sales team manager recommended ACT. However, AC
2005 is getting very poor reviews so that we are looking elsewhere.

What do you think of BCM v2? Do you have any insight into ACT vs. BCM
or BCM vs. alternative solutions?

Thanks,

Jef

Jef,

I have tried ACT 2005 and while it has some very nice improvements I grew
weary of using it along side of Outlook. You can't beat Outlook 2003 for
email. The SQL based re-write of ACT essentially makes this a version 1
release and it runs very slow even on the most powerful and newest machines.
In your process of evaluating alternatives I would recommend that you include
the following site at www.avidian.com.

Jef,

The only thing I don't like about it and it's huge in my opinion is that
Outlook does not appear to cache the Business contacts. Which means, that
when your sales people are away from the office, they can't access any of the
BCM contacts? You'd have to do something such as put msde on each remote
computer and do some type of replication or what not. But in a scenario such
as this I wouldn't want msde on every computer and have to deal with keeping
everything in synch.

Now there is a version of BCM for PPC which appears to allow you to synch
the contacts so you'd have them available for use offline if they had a
pocket PC.
