BCM failed to initialize the common language runtime Ecall methods

Business contact manager failed to initialize the common language runtime
Ecall methods must be packaged into a system module

What is this error? How do I correct it? This just started happening this
morning.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. I have a hunch that there was an
automatic upgrade that caused the problem because I did not touch the
software and it had been running previously.

I'm seeing it too, since last night's update -- I don't even use BCM, though
it's installed. Outlook is difficult to use around all the popups. Anyone
tried to just roll back their system?

hi
Could you provide us with some repro steps? We need more information
to analyze this problem. Can you please enable logging for BCM and
send the log file to BCMISVX__at__microsoft.com . Please note that
there are no underscores in the above e-mail address . Please follow
the following steps to enable logging for BCM.

1. Go to the help menu
2. Choose About Business Contact Manager for Outlook
3. Another window opens up and in the bottom of that , there will be a
checkbox to enable logging for BCM , Please check that.
4. Redo the conversion
5. You can find the log file at C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Local
\Temp\BCMLog_V3.log

Thanks
Vinit

Vinit -- tried to do what you wanted but could not (BCM does not come up at
all when you open Outlook and there is no About BCM in the help menu).
Sequence that I see when trying to open outlook is
Outlook logo appears
Inbox appears in background with error message in foreground
Last time I had to release 23 identical error messages before Outlook was
usable.
Once errors are cleared Outlook appears to work "normally".

Problem started on or about April 11 -- was working fine prior to that.
Smells like an automatic update was applied that has put us all out of
commission for BCM

Hi Vinit:

The problem turned out to be even worse than BCM. The microsoft update log
showed that an update for .NET failed to install on the evening of the 11th.
I traced the error message number back and got that "something's wrong" and
to uninstall ALL .NET components and reinstall. Well, none (NONE) of the .NET
components would uninstall manually on the "Install and Remove Software" tool
in the control panel. The description for the error said if that happened to
use the .NET uninstall tool, which I did (took forever!). Then Outlook was
hosed, naturally. I tried to install each of the .NET compnents (starting
from 1.0, then service pack 3 for 1.0, etc.), and it got all squirlly and I
quit for the night, distressed that Turbotax won't run either and I haven't
filed yet.

Why is it that software and computers KNOW when things are critical and fail
just then, of all times?

Today I reinstalled Turbotax 2007 (which seems to force an install of .NET
2.0) and miracle! Outlook runs! No error boxes! I have NOT tried to do the
updates on .NET again -- will hold off until after I've filed my taxes.

I don't know if this helps. Maybe the others should check their Microsoft
Update log and see if there's a .NET problem. And if so, to be very careful
about what you do about it!

Happy trails,
Stuart

Is TurboTax 2007 from the makers of CA Internet Security.
Do you use CA Internet Security?
I updated my CA Internet Security recently and I'm having the same problem
that everyone else is having, so I'm wondering if there is a conflict between
CA and Business Contact Manager.

Thanks in advance for a reply,

Paul

No luck -- followed instructions but cannot remove the existing version of
..Net 2.0 -- errors out.

As previously mentioned I was unsuccessful using the uninstall from XP. I
then tried to follow the Intuit instructions to install the new .Net
framework but that had an error also (but kept running to the end). When the
computer rebooted there were a bunch of applications that did not want to
execute. I then went to the Microsoft Download site (used Google) and
downloaded the .Net framework tool which ran completely and also solved the
problem.

On reboot not only did all applications initiate as expected, but also the
BCM error messages no longer are appearing.

Thanks to all for your help.

I received a response from Microsoft instructing me to address the .net
issues first by deleting and then re-installing, but based on your experience
I am reluctant to do that. Have you had any success in figuring this all
out? Will Microsoft Office support assist?
If the 2 .net updates won't install, how would our .net software have been
corrupted??

Dear JakesDad,

I'm having the same trouble repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling
2.0.

What .NET Framework Tool did you download?
There are like 20 of them?

Thanks,

Paul

You would think that they should assist for free, but I haven't tried.
